Communications Policy

Everyone is entitled to respect for their private and family life, home, physical and mental health, and correspondence, including digital communications.

Purpose
Keyworth News is a community-led magazine created to celebrate village life, local organisations, and the people who make Keyworth special. We welcome feedback and contributions and aim to handle all communications in a fair, respectful, and consistent way. We also value the well-being of our team and expect all communications to be kind, constructive, and friendly.

1. Respectful Feedback
Feedback is welcome when it is constructive, helpful, offered in good faith, and delivered positively in tone. How feedback is expressed matters as much as what is being corrected. Typographical errors are unintentional and carry no hidden meaning or motive; spelling is a skill and should not be mistaken for authority or moral position.
Communication that is rude, commanding, judgemental, or disproportionate distracts from the point being made and may not be engaged with.
We welcome:
-
Suggestions
-
Corrections
-
Story ideas
-
Community updates
-
Advertising and submission enquiries
All general feedback is acknowledged and reviewed as part of our regular editorial process.

2. Formal Complaints
A formal complaint is any communication that raises concerns relating to:
-
Legal or regulatory matters
-
Data protection or privacy
-
Editorial standards
-
Publication or distribution practices
Formal complaints must be submitted in writing to:
editor@keyworthnews.com
We aim to respond within 10 working days.

3. Communication Channels
To ensure clarity and consistency:
-
We do not engage in legal, regulatory, or compliance discussions via informal messages or extended email exchanges.
-
Matters of a formal nature are handled through the official editorial email address only.

4. Editorial Independence
Content in Keyworth News is provided by a diverse range of contributors, community groups, and partner organisations. Writing styles, experience levels, and perspectives naturally vary and reflect the inclusive, community-led nature of the magazine.
We prioritise community voice and participation; occasional minor typographical errors are an accepted part of that process.
The Parish Council independently compiles and provides the diary events featured in each issue.

5. Personal Data and Contact Information
We aim to publish role-based or organisational contact details for community organisations. Personal contact details are avoided unless they are explicitly provided for public use by the organisation or individual concerned.
Any concerns regarding published information should be directed to editor@tkeyworthnews.com for review.

6. Closing Correspondence
We reserve the right to close correspondence once a matter has been acknowledged and addressed in line with this policy.

7. Our Commitment
We are committed to:
-
Respectful community communication
-
Fair and proportionate review of feedback
-
Celebrating the diversity, inclusion, and character of Keyworth

Keyworth News and The Rudd are community publications. We are committed to responsible advertising and to promoting high standards of animal welfare.
For this reason, we apply the following policy to all advertisements relating to the sale of animals.

1. Legal Compliance
All advertisers must comply with:
• The Animal Welfare Act 2006
• The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018
• The ban on third party commercial sales of puppies and kittens commonly known as Lucy’s Law
Advertisers are responsible for ensuring they meet all legal requirements before submitting an advertisement.

2. Breeding Licence Requirements
Any advertiser who:
• Breeds three or more litters in a twelve month period, or
• Is operating as a business
must hold a valid local authority breeding licence.
Where a licence is required, the advertisement must clearly state:
• The breeding licence number
• The name of the issuing local authority
We reserve the right to request documentary evidence of a licence before publication.
Advertisements that do not include legally required information will not be accepted.

3. Minimum Age
No advertisement will be accepted for the sale of puppies or kittens under eight weeks of age.

4. Third Party Sales
We do not accept advertisements from third party commercial dealers. Puppies and kittens under six months old must be sold directly by the breeder in accordance with current legislation.

5. Welfare Standards
We reserve the right to refuse any advertisement where:
• The welfare of animals appears to be compromised
• The advertiser cannot demonstrate compliance with current legislation
• The advertisement may contribute to irresponsible breeding or purchasing practices

6. Publisher Discretion
Keyworth News and The Rudd retain the absolute right to refuse or withdraw any advertisement at our discretion in order to protect community standards and animal welfare.
